Public Benefit Analysis 2024

Hello,

Every year we submit a “Public Benefit Analysis” to 4Culture and we want to share our most recent analysis with you which we submitted to 4Culture at the end of August so that you can get an update on the work you have supported.

The first section is what we were projecting to accomplish in 2024. The second section show what we have accomplished through August of 2024 which is right on target with our projections.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Dace Anderson (she/her)

2024 Dace’s Rock ‘n’ More Music Academy Public Benefit Projection

Besides our quarterly “Rockcitals”, Rock ‘n’ More is the Entertainment Director for Maple Valley Days and The Maple Valley Farmers Market. Between these three things, we produce over 30 days of free musical programming with over 70 acts for tens of thousands of people every year. In most years there are even more events and possibilities for students and other artists from around King County. In the past, additional opportunities have included performing and/or being interviewed on the radio and television among other things. We have always provided tuition assistance to everyone who has needed it, and we’ve never turned anyone down. Most years we have given over $10,000 in tuition assistance. It has become well-known and that we are supportive of LGBTQ people. Here in South King County, we know that LGBTQ kids need more support, and we are currently pivoting our business model to include a significant amount of outreach in that regard. Currently, we are in the beginning stages of providing support and services for LGBTQ youth in schools and libraries.

2024 Dace’s Rock ‘n’ More Music Academy Public Benefit Analysis

We are two-thirds of the way through 2024 and right on track to meet all our public benefit targets for the year.

We projected producing over 30 days of free-to-the-public musical programming with over 70 acts. So far this year, we have produced 24 days of free-to-the-public musical programming with about 50 different acts having performed. We have 10 more days of programming scheduled this year and are expecting about 20 different acts to be performing. Our total for 2024 will be 34 days of programming and about 70 acts total.

We projected giving over $10,000 in tuition assistance in 2024. Through August we have given $6,434. Projected to the end of the year that would put us at $9,603, which is close to the intended goal. The amount of tuition assistance we’ve provided has risen throughout the year, however, so the total at the end of the year will likely be over $10,000.

In 2024, Rock ‘n’ More made significant strides in LGBTQ-centered programming. The board of Directors crafted and codified a value statement explicitly stating our support of the LGBTQ community. Here is an excerpt from our official value statement.

”In order to serve our community by achieving our mission and fulfilling our vision, Dace’s Rock ‘n’ More Music Academy holds authenticity, transparency, and perseverance as core values. Rock ‘n’ More strives to be a safe, inclusive, and comfortable space for everyone with an emphasis on that of historically marginalized communities such as LGBTQIA2S+ and people of color. As a queer-women-led non-profit organization, we feel that showing up authentically every day plays an important role in lessening bigotry and providing safety for others to do the same.”

And this wasn’t just performative lip-service. In 2024, Rock ‘n’ More volunteered at LGBTQ youth groups and provided a class for the LGBTQ youth camp, Camp Ten Trees. It’s not a lot but we feel like we’ve done something and that we are committed to doing more in the future.

In 2024, Rock ‘n’ More hit a record high enrollment level, increased capacity for lessons and classes, and hired a general manager and a project manager. 2024 was the first full year that we felt the pandemic was behind us and we feel stronger and more confident than ever that, with the support of our community, including 4Culture, we can not only continue our mission, but expand on it and grow along with the population in South King County.
